Could someone tell me what cruising speed could be expected of a 9 metre rib of "average" or "normal" design with a single 350 hp stern-drive diesel? Also what WOT speed could be expected?

Thanks.

Kevin.

At work I operate a commercially built Delta RIB with an inboard 320hp...she has a top speed of about 40 knots and I would say she cruises happily at 30 knots, 35 for fast cruise or 25 if not in a hurry and want to be more gentle on the fuel. A lighter sleeker leisure boat my go faster depending on design and set up....cheers Iain. ps have you come across the RIBnet forum where there are a lot more RIB users...??

I agree with Ifraser. Get yourself over to www.rib.net/forum where you will get a much wider range of peope to answer you. Your prop, load etc are going to have an influence on speed too.

As a general guide, a small rib (<5m) or a medium rib with a small engine will usually cruise around 20 knots. Medium sized ribs (say 5-7m) are typically cruising around 30 knots but may be able to do >40 knots. Larger ribs are usually cruising around 30 knots too. There are racing and other "sporty" ribs frequently travelling in excess of 50 knots and the crazy guys go over 70!

Comfortable cruising speed is going to depend not only on engine size / boat length / hull design (there is no such thing as "normal") but also on the weather conditions / sea state.
