A friend has his late 40's motor cruiser in Brighton, where this week she has failed the BSC. Work is underway, a reinspection is arranged for early next week when hopefully the certificate will be signed off. He then intends leaving for Ramsgate on Friday, and arriving at Teddington on Sunday. He wishes to buy a yearly licence (ChrisW; as you will be reading this I forgot to say Thames licences run January to January, whenever you pay for one).
However the question is whether this is possible - I think not as you have to apply by post for a yearly licence, and what would be the advice now as ChrisW won't get his BSC till about Wednesday?

& hoping made some sense

Well , he can apply for it , and when he comes through Teddington we will issue him an unregistered report , which will then go off to Reading.

Reading will view it and realise that it tallys up with an application that they already have in hand and that will be the end of it.

Or ...

If he hasn't applied for it by the time he reaches Teddington , he will still get an unregistered report , but then he must get his application off ASAP to stop the Agency coming after him. Ideally this should be within two weeks of receiving the unregistered report.

It would be easier for him if he can get the application off to Reading before he arrives at Teddington , that way he hasn't got the hassle of a deadline to work to.

Would be a possibility? Seems easier to buy a 14 day licence (or whatever) if it's possible to get a refund on the 12 month one when applied for.

Yes it is , but then he has to outlay the money , the way i suggested , you just come through , pick up an unregistered report and pay no money ...

Initially doing it your way he will have to shell out for an annual and a visitors and then claim the visitors back , just more hassle.

If you buy a visitors , remember you sign to say that your boat complies with the BSS , if it doesn't pass this time , then it won't comply will it ?

Up to you , whatever way you want to do it .
