I have punted this before with little evidence of support but I am prepared to give it one more try.

There seems little point in trying to organise anything the same weekend as the QDJ celebrations in London but two weeks later the 16th June is the Queens Official Birthday and may offer an opportunity for us to do something special by way of a rally and sail past to commemorate her 60 years on the throne.

So, with my TMBA hat on, I would like to invite all non-tidal Thames motor boaters to participate in a Thames MotorBoaters Queens Diamond Jubilee Rally and Sail Past at Windsor on 16th June.

Lots of investigating/planning needed before we can decide final arrangements but idea would be an EA Class N Sail Past mustering below Boveney and cruising downriver to turn at Windsor Bridge and then return upriver to MDL Windsor marina for a get together on the Saturday evening.
MDL Marinas have kindly indicated that they would be happy to provide free overnight mooring at their Windsor marina for this event.

Doubt we can get Her Maj to do it but sure we can arrange for someone suitably important to take the salute at Windsor as well as create a bit of a pageant spectacle of our own.

If you would be interested in participating please let us know by using the Contact Form on the TMBA website

Have offered to assist in any way, perhaps with mooring or marshalling too :)

Look forward to meeting any forumites too...:D

Calling all Thames boat clubs

Perhaps those of you that belong to non-tidal Thames boat clubs would be kind enough to draw this to the attention of your members?

If Windsor is too far away for your club to participate, maybe you could think about organising a satellite event on your stretch of the river ?

Curses!

The mere hint of a "FREE" overnight courtesy of MDL marinas and chance to hob nob with the rich and famous in the Windsor clubhouse would normally have me hot footing up there.
Unfortunately it clashes with the clubs "Valiant Cruise" on the same weekend.

Basically a day out on the glorious Medway for some very special kids in a local swimming club and their mums and dads followed by some free tuck back at the clubhouse.

Isn't there going to be an awful lot of paper work involved in transiting the Tideway for much of the Summer - not just the main Olympic period. Could be a right Royal (!) pain for visitors?

HRH Oldgit?

Perhaps you could ask Oldgit to salute the sail past, because your invitation is to non-tidal Thames boaters. It might make up for the diamond jubilee debacle.

Never mind the chit chat - this thread is to see how many peeps will support a "right royal do" at Windsor on June 16th.

Although there have been over 500 'views' less than half a dozen have confirmed interest although that includes a collective response from the Dunkirkers.

Need to do better than this if its going to get off the ground.

Help please !

Come on folks,
This is a great opportunity to bring back a bit of a buzz to the River. Show the naysayers that boaters can get together and do something in concert.

It will provide a spectacle for gongoozlers which might attract more people to make better use of this great stretch of water.
