Owned and run by the Cirdan Trust. Sail training for young people. I have sailed her and was a relief skipper for the Cirdan Trust many years ago...
She is a baltic trader and was originally named 'Else' hence the t-shirt 'The Queen Galadriel, something Else'.
Rig is a a slight mix of Barge and East Coast. so she is a gaff ketch with the topsail set on a Topsail stick - barge style.
Hydraulic wheel steering. You used to go astern by winding the mechanical feathering prop into its astern position so you can see the person driving frantically winding the handle backwards and forwards as she comesinto her berth.
She's just a lovely boat in every respect. When I used to teach in the local girls grammar school, I managed to charter her and sail to the Brest Festival of traditional sail with a party of sixth formers. (and got paid) It was hell out there, but someone had to do it.
Funny you should say that, it was all lads onboard, but moored next to her was another yacht, I think it was something to do with the sea scouts, with loads of girls onboard.
I think they left early!
