Been offered a spot at Quay Lane, where the moorings ' just dry out onto mud on some low spring tides, '
I've not been there yet-anyone got experience of the place or have any comments to make?
I'll either be putting the Bayliner or whatever else I acquire in the next few weeks (Fairline or something like that) on it.
 
If you get the Fairline make sure the leg has proper power trim and not like mine which is a 280 leg otherwise when it dries it will rip the leg off
 
Not used the moorings but have used their yard for the normal spring refit. Nice bunch of guys very helpful and friendly. They have a firework party on the 7th November at 1930hrs, if you phone Lyn at the yard why not pop along and meet them.

oh.....
the one I'm looking at has a 280 leg which appears to trim right up in the pictures I've seen?

Took these this year. Very soft mud. Seems to be a very friendly place and has a good chandlers within walking distance.

BAV34 took those pics a few weeks ago when we moved our Westerley Pageant to Quay Lane, so we could get an idea of the route into the moorings and just how much the water dissappears by.
I would say that you get appx 2 hrs either side of HW to be safe. Westerly draws 2ft 9" and we have found we can get in/out appx 2 1/4 hrs either side.
The yard staff are helpful (Butch is a really handy guy to know and is very helpful). I believe there is no space to put boats on the hard at the moment, but spaces available on the pontoons.

I considered here myself earlier this year to get off a pile mooring in Gosport but despite the friendliness of the staff I considered it a bit restrictive. Unless there was a sizeable tide you could be easily caught out coming back in and end up stranded. Even one of the staff admitted his boat was not on its mooring through being caught out the previous day. Rough and ready but friendly and Bav34's photos are exactly as I saw it.
 
Hi i think 2 hrs either side of high water is very restrictive,i know i would want more time,& as i understand it the 280 leg does not lift as high as the 290 so you may have a problem there, regards m m 1.
 
When I purchased my Bayliner 2858 18 months ago it was here that it was being berthed.
As stated previous the yard staff were great when I arranged my lift out and wash off prior to shipping to Wales.
They are also very competent mechanicaly as this was the yard that fitted the Yanmar diesel in place of the petrol for my boats previous owner.
My boat is now for sale as we have upsized and its advertised on the usual sites if anyone wants a very good boat.
Please excuse the blatant plug.
 
Have to say that looks somewhat shallower than only drying out at lowwater springs!
Might have to have a rethink-can get a drying mooring in Langstone harbour with the same kind of access for a sixth of the price....
