thanks for all replyies ref pitch pine. all read and noted.
will i have to have timber planks for hull {about 200 ft } quarter sawn . will it be a substandard job if i don't ?

thanks in anticipation of your help.

Are you having a log milled up for you ? If you have the chance to go and pick your timber you can pick the quater sawn from the plain sawn . Quater sawing is a wastefull process so i assume if you are having the log milled for you you will be paying for the waste .
The reason quater sawn is used is it has less cupping than other methods of sawing ( the grain is 90* to the face) So yes to use anything other than quater sawn IMHO would be a bad thing . But im a Carpenter and Joiner not a Boatbuilder .

Is that without steaming ? Like i said im no boatbuilder but i know my timber , im also willing to listen and learn . I would have thought it would be better to buy quater sawn and have the hassle of steaming and bending and it having better structure so to speak than buying plain sawn and having it cupp .

As said above you need to buy your own tree and then get it quarter sawn. "IT" will need steaming to bend and "set" that is the important bit just logging and plain sawing will give you ribs with the grain all over the place and will be "NO" good.
I think I have mentioned before "Gwysaney saw mill" Denbigh Rd Mold
tel:- 01352-759629 will do you a welsh oak tree and saw it for you. When sawn keep the lot it will all come in for something.
