I have a Volvo 2000 series diesel.

In between the fuel Primary and Engine Block filters is a manual priming pump. This has a small plastic gauze type filter that frequently gets clogged up.

There is not much crud in the primary filter but rubbish still seems to be getting through.

This never used to be a problem when I used Champion Filters but it certainly is now.

Done a bit of trawling and filters do seem to be graded in microns. Unfortunately, none seem to be stamped on the packaging.

Would anybody know the make of good filters that are more fine graded than the norm ?

Would be much appreciated. The primary filter is a Champion L131.

Many Thanks

Standard filters.

If you want a better than OEM recommendation, I suggest you go for a Racor setup, initially quite expensive, but excellent filtration.
Remember that the finer the filter, the greater the surface area of filter required to ensure the same flow rate.

ASAP Supplies of Ipswich have these in stock normally.

Thanks chaps !

Very helpful .

Interesting about having to increase the size for a higher spec. Makes sense.

On the way home I popped into Lucas . Very nice people. A member of their staff compared a Delphi with another more industrial type of filter and you could visibly see the more finer material in the Delphi. For the time being I will change all the filters and clean the hand pump again. Bit disconcerting as I did this in January and have logged 300nm with no more than about 75nm under motor. The engine stopped twice last week but I managed to start it again..

A couple of seasons ago I took the tank out and gave it a steam clean. Horrible things came out. Despite flushing all the fuel lines, perhaps they may be breaking down in some way.

Thanks Again.
