Quality and simplicity of a 33 yo Amel Maramu 46'

That's a seriously hideous boat, how did it get off the drawing board :disgust:The floating carbuncle is an offence to decency and good taste, luckily you don't see them very often. :encouragement:
Very practical though, like a Volvo.

OK, best you avoid La Rochelle. There is a whole pontoon of them. Mate bought a new 54 a few years ago. While he was waiting for it, he bought an older 36. Equally a poke in the eye... But they do work well, and hold their value.

Henri Amel was blind for a portion of his life.....

Amels are my dream boat, but on that one I was disappointed to hear the grating sound when the cupboard sliding doors were moved. I would have expected easy glide edging even on a boat of that vintage.

A fellow IP Owners Association member has the first Island Packet sold through an official IP importer in the UK. 31 years old now IIRC. As with Amels, quality comes through.

It looks like a five year old boat, despite hard and continuous use.

The sliding bits slide cleanly, smoothly and quietly. The opening doors move smoothly and are still a good fit and are unwarped.

I have mentioned on here before, the owner would remove the Yanmar impeller every year and drop it into a glass of water.

He only changed it after 26 years - it still looked as good as a new one - because we shamed him into it!

He keeps the old one as a spare..............................
