We need a new Heater Element & probably Thermostat for our 10 year old QL Water Heater. Keypart say Volvo Penta no longer offer Spares.
Anyone know where I can buy the parts I need?

Thanks,
John

Immersion heater elements in calorifiers are, generally speaking, generic items rather than brand specific. So, look at the size of the current element and use that to source a new one. Most seem to be 2 1/4 inch BSP for the fitting and come a in a variety of lengths to suit the size of your calorifier. Like these here http://www.sheridanmarine.com/product/boat-calorifier-immersion-heaters . I've fitted a new element and thermostat to our Quick boiler: awkward to access it but a relatively simple job once the access was sorted.

Contact Heatrod Elements on Tel: 0161 727 3713 or check out their website. Ask for Alan Rix (if he is still around) and give him / them the size you need (power rating, thread, length, type (single loop or double loop).
Domestic heaters are usually 3kw or sometimes 2kw however boaty ones tend to be 750w or maybe up to 1kw. Heatrod can produce to your requirements if they do not have one as a stock item and are (were) more than happy to deal with joe public even for one element.
One other good point is they do not charge "marine" prices I cannot remember exactly what i paid for the last one but I am pretty sure it was in the "teens"

Hi John,
I've just discovered that I've got the same problem. I've got a 2005 QL 22 litre calorifier, also needs thermostat and element. Did you find a satisfactory solution and if so would you mind sharing it with me please?!
Many thanks
Geoff

I bought replacement Element & Thermostat from Penguin Eng, Hayling Island. They also sold me the large (56mm ish) box spanner to remove the Element.
I had to removed the WH from the boat to undo the element- this wasn't a difficult job, but allow a couple of hours to drain down and do a tidy job.

Hi John,
Looks like you make good use of your B39! I've enjoyed reading a bit of your blog, very jealous!
Do you remember any of the element details, thread size single or double element and length?
