QDJ Rehearsal

I guess it also makes it just a little bit easier to keep any undesirables from making a nuisance of themselves.

buugar.... thats my plan for a quick swim somewhere around Tower Bridge gone on that particular day, cannot remember just where the idea came from tho :)

Luckily for us, the boat I hope to have there for the event has four IPS engines and a bow thruster so no worry about losing power and being at the mercy of the fierce Thames tides for us! That said, we plan to be moored up and watch from the sidelines......probably with a glass or two of imbibing fluid to hand.:)
Oldgit, we will keep an eye out for you on our way upstream in case you are getting some practice in for the days swim. ;) Good luck on the day:D
TeddingtonLock, thanks for your confirmation of what we had assumed was the reason for there being no tides anyway. Good to check the systems work before they are needed in anger. It should also make for some great photo opportunities for those that have not seen the barrier in operation.
Neale - Closing the barrier will certainly keep undesirables out of the way - must remember to be there early enough to get through:D:D
Shaping up to be quite a day I think. I have told my wife that it is all for our wedding anniversary, do you think I will get away with it?

It's my Wifes birthday on that very day!

I told her I have organised a few other boaters to give her a sailpast, and as an added surprise get the Queen to pop down and wave at her....

Might be a good night for me then :o

Boatone, many Thanks for the tip off - better watch my P's and Q's on the day.;)
Can you advise me some more - should I get a shine on my deckies or leave them looking more authentic and "lived in"?

Not sure you will be able to get close enough to the barrier to get any good photos , boats are kept away during the full closure for obvious reasons .

Other than the wild water on the 'inside' of the gates , there is the security aspect.

Because there is about 500 rowing boats involved , 99% of which i suspect have no 'hidden power'

Barrier is using that date for it's full annual closure , there will be no tide that day.

Should make it a lot safer for all involved :)

The Eco-wingers won't be happy. Upsetting the natural Eco system for even one day will be too much for them !! Might I suggest that should anyone see a wetsuit clad protester in the river, that they just pretend they're are not there.:)
