Has anyone got any upto date info on the old town quay at Lymington as to minimum reported depths at the pontoon cos Im thinking about paying a royal visit there with the (T)rusty old ketch but REALLY dont want to stay in either of the marinas.

I checked out the website but cant find any relevant info and ye olde pilot book mentions pirates and payment in shillings and no mention of word "pontoon" ! (YES KIDS I NEED A NEW PILOT BOOK AND NOT SOCKS !)

much appreciation in advance and merry ho ho etc

My 2007 almanac says minimum depth is 1.1m but I am pretty sure you should be OK to about 2.0m. There has been a lot of dredging recently, and it could be deeper now. I would call the HM to check. 01590 672014

There is a floating pontoon connected to the quay, although you may have to raft up depending on when you are planning to visit.

The depths are probably OK up to just over 2m at LAT but the limit on the Quay itself is 12m LOA I think. There is another pontoon not quite at the quay and not connected to shore that is reserved fo boats of 40ft plus, that would be OK but in winter there are local boats on it I think. Failing that the Harbour Commissioners have another pontoon usually kept for rallies of 6 or more boats, this is downriver outside of Lymington Yacht Haven and they might let you use it if it is not booked and you ask first, they did us one time. This is called the Dan Bran (sp) pontoon and it costs the same as the buoys or the quay. The fore/aft buoys opposite the quay are for boats up to 40ft max normally as anything bigger overlaps and makes it hard for anyone to go on the next pair.

You may not have any problem but it is worth a call, they are very helpful. The bottom is soft mud anyway and I'm sure there is 2m at the quay, plenty of deep draught boats get up there. We draw 2.08m and touch at LW on really big springs on the outer pontoon, we don't use the quay.

The Dan Bran pontoon I mentioned will be deeper and that one is connected to the shore and you come out by Lymington Town SC and RLYC clubhouses, not too far from town.

You are right about the depths at Dan Bran, Robin, and that area has been dredged recently too. As you say, HM will advise.

ribrage - drop me a PM before you come, if you fancy a quick beer, although Wednesday is New Years Eve, and Thursday New Years Day. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We are 47ft and draw 2.1m. I have no problem with depths at the town pontoon but often find I can’t get alongside as there is no room for me. This happens more and more these days. I used to be able to use the quay during the winter but now find even in mid Jan and feb it’s full.

We are planning to be out and about in the Solent next week so maybe we will see you.

Good luck
