Mines in-line. I can't see how it would make any difference to the lubrication of the cv joint, not on the Aquadrive anyway. I have no experience of the other type - maybe it uses an unconventional cv joint. In any case, I'm sure you could alter the position of the engine in at least one plane if you had to.
