I am building a 16' 1936 inboard hydroplane and am wondering if anyone has ever used a piece of PVC pipe in the shaft alley instead of a traditional cast bronze shaft log! Seems to me that it would be even better since the entire alley would be encased or embedded in PVC and a water tight packing nut could be used as in traditional methods. Any takes on this?
