We took Ocean Deep over to Weymouth this last weekend.

These shots of playing with the CG Whisky Bravo Chopper were taken on the Friday - we took videos as they practiced with us more on the Monday.

The interesting thing for me was the way a deep keeled boat like this parts the water .... I would be interested in comments.

That day she would go up to 26 knots through the water 28 knots SOG. So she is beginning to loosen up a bit.

She is now almost ready for her trip home.

I have shown a few shots here but you can see them all via this link:-

Blimey see what you mean - good shots too.

The CG put a man down on my deck on Sunday as we were passing Portsmouth on the way back to Hamble................what a racket !

Kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and so did I !!!

Great photos Paul (and a great weekend too /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I reckon you're right - its more a planing hull with a keel. Certainly looks to be planing don't you think?

Lucky sod anyway - I'd love photos like that of our boat underway /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cheers,
Rick

Yes - I think it is more planing.

It still performs great at slow speeds and rides through big rough holes as if they are not there.

In these shots I was doing 20 knots and had a 2 knot current with me.

We practiced with them again on the Monday with stretchers down etc. I was able to video a lot and get some really good stuff.

Excellent shots Paul.

I like this one...

It is good to see you getting postive again after your rotten treatment.

All the best.

We will be home at the end of May steve - that is if there is a berth left for us!!

Then you and mal can have your ride out! I cannot promise any helecopters though - that is unless I cock it up a bit /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

nice pics.

No idea about the waves though i believe that the laminar and non-laminar water flow is due to the Rynold's number, wqhereas the realism/viscosity of the water (ie why scale-model shots in films used to look rubbish) is due to the Froude number, both dimensionless values.

We could have a row about whether someone should've taken in those fenders or not, though, if you fancy? And I reckon the pesky pilot should get down below with his blimmin orange flying suit clashing with the smart boat colours :-)

Promise not to tell anyone but the pilot stayed on the chopper - all this health and safety nonsense you know ...... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I think I passed you just after the crew man was lifted, I came over to take a nose and the chopper flew over us at it left, what a noise! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

These are great pictures, 'love posts like this one, very unusual to see the wash from this angle, would be nice to get a comparison when someone else gets to 'practice' with a known planing hull.

Super boat too Gludy, you must be very proud. Have a good trip home.

Yes - there was a power boat appeared as the crew man was lifted on the Monday. We came through the 2pm Bridge and had a second play arranged with the chopper.... say about 2.30 to 3 pm I guess that was you?

I am having a decent fuel monitoring system fitted to Ocean Deep that will measure mpg directly but at present it seems that as regards efficiency I gain all the way to about 18 knots when the planing hull takes over as more efficient upwards of that.

So I have swapped top end efficiency for a much improved ride. SWMBO was down stairs making a cuppa when we rounded one of the headlands on the way back and encountered a lot of turbulence - she did not even notice and that is nice. At any speed I can walk around the boat in an easy fashion, or even read a book - also different to what I am used to.

I imagine the planing hull would have a much narrower wave form and no central wash from a keel. I wish now that i had added another 6 knots to get top speed - it may have been more impressive. They landed on me at 20 knots but on the monday they asked that I do 10 knots to do the landing.

What would be good is a shot from the chopper of both hull forms doing the same sort of speed alongside each other - say 400 yards apart.

Thank you Dave.

Trader cannot have the shots - it has taken five months for me to begin to use her and I am not a happy bunny with the way they have dealt with things. I will never, ever deal with Trader Emsworth again. Nor am I being picky.... no sane person would beleive how bad things are there. Trader in Penarth are a different kettle of fish and should not be painted with the same brush.
