Anyone tried using pub-type pipe cleaning fluid to clean musty water systems?
It's brillianlty effective at sterilising beer lines so one might imagine it would work on a boat although perhaps best left for the lines only rather than in the tank.

The stuff I used to use was made up of IIRC, bleach and caustic soda of some sort

The beer lines were cleaned by the fluid to remove yeast deposits that built up in the Pipes and this is why beer or lager went frothy when you tried to pour the pint if dirty pipes.
I am not sure that is effect to remove the Scale on the pipes of the water , which would depend on hard or soft water , and if must some water cleaning purifying might be better , like Miltons

I’ve never tried the pub stuff which sounds like permanganate. Instead, I use unthickened bleach at a few millilitres per 100L of water, first to sterilise the tanks at the start of the season and then at a dosage of about 0.2mg/L chlorine for drinking water maintenance once the tanks and pipes have been soaked and flushed.
