We moved to a riverside proprty about 18 months ago and, having done some landscaping work on the front garden it is evident that there is a history of building on the site. I'm just wondering if anyone has any old maps (early 1900's?) or other documents relating to Purley on Thames?

I've done a fair bit of research on t'internet but as yet have not found anything that gives a good level of detail.

Thanks in advance!

I bought a gorgeous 12' clinker built launch with a Stuart Turner inboard from a hut there about 30 years ago. I gave the owner £60 for it to include the trailer. Cheap even then.

Byron,

Was the hut directly on the river bank adjacent to the small island just downstream from Mapledurham lock?

No! Not those. Go downstream where they are all now nice properties and the road ends just before Purley Marina.

The lock shop at Mapledurham had a life history booklet of one of the old lock keepers which contained quite a bit about Purley and particularly flooding in the area. I should imagine this was about 10 years ago I bought it.
