Not sure this the right place to post - so apologies if not...

I'm trying to find a punt - like a duck punt (think that's what they are called) for my father. I've looked around quite a lot on the net but found nothing. Doesn't need to be that long - but not too wide - same as those ones you hire in Oxford. About the same beam as 2 seats on a coach.
Any ideas.

Thanks,

Jono

That is a river punt; a duck punt is used for wildfowling and looks like a large flat bottomed kayak. Try the boatyards in either Oxford or Cambridge.

Hope you're feeling wealthy - even an old punt in bad condition sells for several thousand.

You could try contacting Scudamores (01223 359750) and the Granta punt hire company (01223 301845) - they're the two main punt hire setups in Cambridge. Contacting Trinity College may also be worth a try, as they run a fairly large punt hire set up.

On a slightly different tack try contacting St John's Punt society ( http://www.joh.cam.ac.uk/college_life/societies/punt/ ) as a number of privately owned punts are kept in their punt pool, and occasionally are put up for sale.

Ok thanks very much.

Any ideas where I might get hold of second hand duck punt then. Basically he has a very small shallow river at the bottom of the garden in Cornwall and wants to paddle up river...

Sounds like a Canadian canoe would be ideal. Something like:

http://www.carlislecanoes.co.uk/prices1c.htm

They're much lighter to move around than a duck punt, very stable (most are deigned for Scouts/ families with young kids and so on. Can normally be picked up second hand very cheap - look at the classified adds in your local paper, they seem to come up fairly regularly.

No idea where you'd get a duck punt, though there are pleanty of people selling plans for them if you're feeling creative.

Jono, I have got exactly what you are looking for. Its basically the same as the punts at Oxford or Cam, but slightly shorter. I'll get some pictures of it tommorrow evening.
