I have an elderly Lavac. The operating pump looks like a standard sort of bilge pump but with an oblong case rather than round. It is marked MH Pump type P7/L MkIII. Does anyone recognise this pump and can they point me towards somewhere that would supply new rubber bits?

Thanks for any help.

Probably find one of the Aladins cave chandlers has the bits

Yep! I agree. That's the standard pump for the Lavac and has been used as such (and for bilge pumps) for over 20 years. I don't recognise the pump described by Chas, though this could be an even older version.

Good sailing!

Yes, unless it is very, very elderly you have the Henderson Mk 5. Spares are available in most chandlers. To make sure, take your pump to bits and use the old parts to check against the new ones.
I suggest you fit the new valves as you will probably find the pump works more efficiently and smoothly. Brian

PS, Sorry I meant to say that the Mk5 spares could well work......by the way I think the Lavac is the best marine lavvie there is.

Y=Understand that Lavacs have been sold with Henderson Mk V's for ages, however they are still sold without the pump option for those who already have a sauitable pump - maybe your's was like this, so it's probably worth checking before buying parts.

Pumps - solved

Thanks everybody. Blakes eventually came back to me. For the benefit of historians, apparantly the MH MkIII was used before the Henderson Mk V. Blakes still have seals and diaphrams (?) but have run out of valve rubbers, so it looks as if I will have to find an old pair of gum boots and some scissors.
