How do I split the end fitting from my prop shaft so I can change my stern gland? The boat is a Beneteau 323. 25 mm shaft.

Are there grubscrews or a pin on the coupling half - the photo is not clear enough to see. If there are any blind holes poke in various size Allen keys and see if there any recessed grubscrews.

The photo isn't very clear. Is there a nut inside the coupling? Sometimes shafts are made reversible, and so have the same taper and thread as the propeller end.

Right, well if there is a nut, one way of pushing the shaft out of the coupling is to slacken off the nut, but leave it half on, then using the coupling bolts, pull the two half couplings together. The nut, (and you might need an extra spacer in there as well) will push the shaft, and should break the grip of the taper.

I see what you are saying, so to speak. I need pressure on the shaft against the flange that mounts to the engine output drive. I was wondering about a bearing puller?

Yes, a bearing puller will do the job, if you have one, and if you have enough space to work it. the idea of using the nut / spacer, means that you can get the coupling off without requiring any special kit.

Do NOT try to pull the coupling off with a puller. Apply tension of the coupling with the puller then give the end of the puller screw a short sharp smack with a hammer. The resultant shock will usually spring the coupling free without having to tighten the puller up until something bends or breaks - if it does not come off on the first try, tighten the puller a little more and try again. Do remember to slacken off the nut before using the puller (but only a few turns.)
Do check it is not a taper-loc™ bush, if it is remove the visible grub screw place in one of the jacking holes and tighten - this will jack the taper-loc™ bush out of the coupling. The fact it has a retaining nut suggests it is a standard taper coupling not a taper-loc™

It looks similar to the one on my 393. I was wary of using the method described of putting something between the coupling and retightening the bolts as the fitting on the gearbox is a casting and could easily break! I tried a 'normal' gear puller with no luck before borrowing an hydraulic puller. The shaft was in the taper very tight!! Good luck.
