I've been using PTFE spray to lube the sail track on an anodised mast and boom. Now wishing I hadn't, as I can't remove the 'overspray'!
Tried everything from hot soapy water, to alcohol and acetone, but the awful white marks won't shift.

Any ideas what will shift it?

Never experienced that problem .... always wipes off easily for me

The problem I HAVE experienced is that the cans of the stuff from ToolStation (TECTANE 602) seem to loose pressure once they have been used once ...rendering the rest of the can useless :(

Odd. I've used Sailkote and the extra jizz wipes off easily. Is it possible the solvent that delivers it attacked the anodising?

Brake cleaner?

If that doesn't work try carb cleaner, but that is strong stuff - not sure that it won't do damage, so maybe test using a cotton bud?

With many aerosol cans it is necessary to invert the can after use and give a quick squirt to clear the nozzle. Maybe the nozzle gets clogged and this might help?

Bought a lovely big can of PTFE spray a while back. Hardly used any when last weekend it was sitting on the workshop bench. I knocked it off somehow onto the floor. It must have hit something sharp because there was a hiss that lasted a long time with leakage through a hole in the side of the can. GRRRR
Just a warning to look after those cans of prssure pack olewill

Reminds me of being an junior civil engineer. One lovely morning I was setting out some ground work with a full can of yellow spray paint, dropped the can as I referred to my clip board onto the only pointed stone nearby by and before I could jump clear I was covered head to toe in yellow paint. Being miles from home at the start of the day I spent the day attired in yellow, much to the amusement of the rest of the site workers.

The white deposits are probably micronised PTFE finding its way into the pores of the ali.
If it's bare uncoloured ali you could try rubbing a discreet area with balled-up ali foil and a little water. Works a treat on those inevitable little patches of oxidation on things like cleats etc. Just be careful of the grey oxide because it stains!

Unfortunately, although not in very good condition, its actually gold anodised. Means the white deposits really stand out. Still haven't been able to remove it!!!
