Completed sanding the deck and now completed removing all exposed screws and thin plugs.

The screw that have been removed were countersink type, I am replacing them with A4 pan heads.

Should I coat the screws in anything or inject the existing screw hole with anything prior to fitting the new screws?
I have manage to keep most of the holes at 10mm some may have to go to 12mm, all the original plugs have been epoxied in place, I've noticed that this can leave an epoxy ring around the wooden plug in some cases. Some people recommend using varnish (sounds good for interior plugs) or nothing at all. I was thinking about using Weldwood Glue (came across it in the local swindlery yesterday) the local professional at this kind of work suggest I stick to epoxy, what do you think?

You can use epoxy but you need to work quickly before it goes off or only mix small amounts. It is also messy to get the plug fully coated, difficult to remove excess and if you have an exposed ring it is not UV resistant. I tend to use a polyurethane moisture curing glue such as Pur. This is single pack spreads easily and expands to fill small gaps. Also easy to clean off surplus. No good to fill a 10mm plug in an oversized hole. Suggest you either take all of them out to 12mm or plug the oversized ones to 12 or even 15mm and redrill to 10. Unless of course you can live with the odd larger plugs. You can buy plugs quite reasonably priced from KJ Howells in Poole.

Thanks Tranona, I'm cutting all my own plugs some at 10mm and some 12mm.
I haven't removed every plug on the deck just the ones that need replacing, about 1/3rd of the total plugs, I'm quite happy to live with the odd 12mm plug.
Not looking at filling over-sized holes, I'll just increase the plug size...
Cheers
Dougie
