I just dropped my Psion 3 on the floor and lost all the data. Its obviously time for a change, what is the current favourite pocket organiser? (and no, it wasn't backed up)

Hi John I've got an old 3a sculling around in a drawer somewhere - you're welcome to it, and SWMBO has a Psion 7 that I'm fed up replacing the back-up battery for 'cos she never uses it - I'd have to charge for that and besides it is not really portable being more sub notebook than pocket PC.

More or less in order of price

Palm Clones and the cheaper palms. don't know much about these.

Any of the newer Palms are good, the colour (m500?) has a nice screen and memory expansion they are still a little slow with intensive applications but well made very slim and with long battery life between charges.

Compaq iPaq V sexy ( just ordered one ) lots of power and memory nice screen easier to develop on, which is why I'm interested. top of the range has bluetooth on board. shorter battery life should be recharged at least every other day apparently more familiar windows like environment. More expensive.

for Really tough stuff look at the offerings from Intermec (www.intermec.com) or the british Husky range, both military spec so can double up as an emergency car jack or anchor. Very expensive. Good for hitting in tent pegs. a mate ran over his husky once in a field. went back dug it out of the mud, ran the tap over it, plugged it in and took the survey data off, no probs.

If anyone can think of an boating related application for pocket pc/palm that hasn't already been done I'd be willing to give it a go.

Regards

e-Bay

Bought an M-station for the boat on e-Bay. A bargain; £185 for £600-worth of kit. Can store all the CDs on it so they don't have to be floating around the boat anymore. I think it holds about 3,000. Has a remote control etc. Mr B fitted it last week, it's excellent!!

Thanks

Thanks for all the advice, I suppose I had better go and visit PC World and then be thoroughly confused by the guys there.
Why did no-one remind me that the annual alarm for my wedding anniversary went out with all the other data? I am in the dog house this morning.
