I have invested my cash in a rajo 37 steel cutter, she requires extensive repairs and alot of tlc, having previosly owned grp what the big difference? I anticipate 3-4 years to return her to her former glory. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Free Spirit?

I guess you've bought "Free Spirit". Hope you have lots of enjoyment with her. Suppose the key thing with steel is to be scrupulously careful with preparation and only use top quality paint.

Re: Free Spirit?

Always try and keep the bilges dry.Carry a roll of PVC electrical tape so that if you scratch the paint you can cover till you get time to remedy.Try and find a supplier of Comma Wax Seal to spray round anything thats joined to the steel work ie hatches, bolts, screws etc. Brilliant stuff spray on then wipe off it searches into gaps joints etc and wipes off like wax polish. Waxoil from another maker is not as good.

The ability to weld on new cleats and fittings, knowing that they are strongly attached to the hull and watertight.

And the need to discover where in your boat your hand-bearing compass is least in error.

Get one of the new invertor type DC welders which will di stick ans TIG welding and practice with both stick for mild steel, TIG for stainless and if you have a big welding job in mild steel go for MIG/MAG welding.

Re: Free Spirit?

Hi,

I am the proud new owner of a PVC electrical tape boat. Sadly the previous owner seem to have covered it in steel. Do any of the forum members have any idea how I can remove the steel leaving the original PVC electrical tape unscathed?.
