Hi, I'm about to receive a 17ft boat, to be moored during summer on shingle, tidal beach. Boatbuilder has advised that metal strip (don't know correct term) to protect glass keel will not fit to my new boat. He claims this will damage glass if screwed on (causing leaks) and will be knocked off anyway if swell effects beach. He fits this to his displacement boats, but not to planing hulls. I'm thinking about glueing metal/plastic strip to keel. Does anyone have advise on this?

Whilst I am of the "less holes in your hull is better" school of thought...... why does he suppose that the metal strip will be knocked off a planing hull on a beach, but not off a displacement hull?
