When we return I normally take off the engine cowl and give the engine a liberal spraying with CRC Formula 6-56

I use the CRC because somebody said that WD40 tends to breakdown the insulation on wiring and runner type parts faster than the CRC.

2000+ WD-40 Uses | Remove Paint, Rubber Adhesive, Rust Stains ...

Browse over 2000 uses for WD-40, the multipurpose product. WD-40 is great for removing paint, rubber adhesive, gum, crayon marks, rust stains and more.

Is this accurate?

WD40 does not break down the insulation, it corrodes copper over a short period of time, this means the conductor in cables and contacts in various connector plugs if they are copper or zinc plated copper.
