I've just seen THIS stuff featured in PBO this month and I'm going to try it on the sterngear on my boat which is being lifted next week. Propspeed consists of a 2 part treatment, an etching primer base coat with a silicon based top coat, the theory being that those barnacle critters can't get a grip on the slippery surface. Its supposed to be good for 2 seasons but if it lasts one, I'll be delighted. Material cost is about €250 for a typical twin prop 15m boat but I only need 1 extra knot over the course of the season to save more than that in fuel
I'll post another report in a few weeks

yep, tho the props neeed to be be superclean, sandpapered shiny and then cleand up with say acetone.

Like an idiot, i mucked aboutwith mine at the next liftout by er putting some antifoul on. I dunno what came over me. Anyway, the antifoul seems to be a solvent for propspeed so er it all came off.

I tried to get a price for Propspeed earlier this year.
The guy didnt seem interested in supplying me.
Also wanted to do it himself and not issue it to my contractor.
So didnt do it.
It is probably questionalbe that it would be any good in the UK anyway.
You guys in the Med probably have more of an issue.

Mike,

Old thread I found in Google, are you still using Propspeed or a waste of time?

Anders
Complete waste of money, Anders. I had the Propspeed professionally applied in Majorca and within a few weeks it was flaking off the props and fouling was already taking place. IMHO it may be suitable for displacement boats with slow turning props but not for faster planing boats. If anyone can come up with a system that stops sterngear from getting fouled, especially in the Med, they would be a rich man

Thanks, I'll cross it off my spec.

Is this the International Paints stuff ? If so, I tried it in 2006. I didn't have any issues with adhesion to the drive ( I didn't put any on the stainless props). However, most sea life seemed to like living on it. It was a waste of money.

The main problem was the following season when I wanted to use conventional antifouling on top of it ; no primer or antifouling would stick to it even after it had been abraded.! So, I had to sand down the drive to the original paint layer.

I had a lift out recently so I saw close up the results of firefly's Find Of The Year namely the aerosol TK from force4 at £20 per can. I will post pics next week but the stuff is brilliant. After a whole 2013 med season my props were amazingly clean. This stuff is amazing and I'm sticking with it

JFM, this is just what I was hoping to hear. I dosed Rafiki's props when she was transported in August, and hope for a similar result. Firefly should do his own blog of boating tips, I am also a convert to his suggestion if Silveryak canuba wax. Great stuff and so easy to use. :)

I used the same after picking up some rope & lifting out, the results are looking good, although only three months so far.

Wow, if its that good I reckon its 'firefly' for 'Forumite of the Year' award.

Just ordered 6 cans to try.

Life would be just about perfect (boating wise) if I obtain the same results in Mallorca.

when this product is applied, does it feel sticky ?

in June I had cavitation holes on my props, professionally repaired and polished in Holland,
when the props came back, they ware treated with a product that feels sticky...
now 4 months later, the props still look surprisingly clean, no growth, ..
so I would like to know what product they have used,
maybe I just asc the company
