I don't know if other East Coasters have heard about this? It seems to me that as all the beds have to be marked, presumably at the corners, it will result in a lot of unlit possibly not that visible buoys in the Stour. Even if clearly visible it will make beating up the river a bit trickier.

I believe HASA (Harwich Area sailing Association) are aware, let us hope they can stop/modify the proposal.

let's hope they only modify and not stop it, rivers aren't just for our use, some people use them to earn a living.

The Wrabness hut owners have been made aware so I looked at the plans: It would be sensible if the buoyage is lit but otherwise, the only problem I can see is that they have the sole right to harvest shellfish. I've been eating the mussels and oysters for years!

I thought it might be useful to see the five areas plotted on a nautical chart rather than an OS map (as in the documentation)

With apologies for the size of the image (can't help that!) ...

I'm not sure there's that much to be concerned about to be honest. Even if each area is marked at the corners with unlit buoys, there's plenty such already around. Racing marks, for example, are rarely if ever lit nor are mooring buoys. Anyway, there it is.

Edit: Borrocks, the forum software has resized the image too small to be properly readable!

Here's the link to the original ...

I think that's publicly accessible, if not let me known and I'll move it somewhere that is

3 anchorage areas in the Ewerton / Harkstead area

Can't say as the prospect of such exposed anchorages has ever appealed to me but it's a fair point.

Is anchoring to be forbidden within the proposed fisheries (I assume it would be unpopular with the owner but that's not the point)

I have anchored for lunch in those sort of areas, only because it was convenient turning into wind between tacks rather than for the shelter and natural beauty.

Copperas Bay ( S of Ewerton ness) is well sheltered in a S/W & Harkstead Point is a very popular anchorage

Indeed but to be honest I really don't understand why!!!! :) however ....

This order does seem to have been rushed as on page 5 (http://www.qualitysolicitors.com/pa...aftsrotheriverstourmusselfisheryorder2015.pdf) "A full impact assessment has
not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sectors is foreseen."

That is where I would start the protest.

Me too. Clearly thre is going to be some impact, at least, and as two of the five areas cover what apparently are popular anchorages (despite my less than enthusasiastic feelings about them) the claim that there will be no significant impact etc is clearly suspect

The anchorage off Copperas point inside the old mooring buoys is one of my favourite places to overnight (or even longer).

It's going to get bloody crowded if these mussel beds come into being.
