Proposed get together IN August, weekend of 30th,31st

Yes I know I'm rubbish at organising get togethers, so how about using an event that's already been worked out and just join in for a fun weekend. Sixpence will be in the Deben by then, so maybe a chance for some to come and say hello to her, but in any case, how about we have a get together at Heybridge Basin and maybe help out with the fund raising ?

Anyone up for it ?

Maybe put a team or two into the round the island race ?

Saturday 30th August 2008
This year we are supporting:
The Cardiomyopathy Association and Farleigh Day Hospice (Maldon)
From 11.00am at the Lock Gates, Heybridge Basin
Race Starts 12.30pm - high tide 13.04pm.
Entry: £3 per person plus sponsorship)
Come and support our Rowers and enjoy a fun afternoon for the whole family
‘messing about on the river’.
There’s lots’ going on: Craft and Activities Marquee, Homemade Cakes and Goodies,
Charity Stalls, Raffl e, BBQ and loads more. Plus two pubs and tea rooms.
Rowing: All craft welcome. Classes: Singles, Groups, Doubles.
Fancy Dress / Team Colours optional but encouraged (!)

We are all in Burnha, Week on the UAgust Bank Holiday Weekend, which is indeed the 25th.

Can't make the following weekend, as we are wafting out to paradise to join Olive Oyl and Popeye on their Luxury Yacht.

Have just spoken with Tina to confirm that it is indeed, the weekend after Burnham week /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Also it seems, we may be able to get 'special' rates for anyone that wants to join in, to possibly move boat to Heybridge on the B/H weekend, leave there for the week, to be in position for the event itself.
So that is my intention, and possibly the best way to do it unless people want to sail in on the Friday.

Not sure yet..... will have just spent the best part of 3 weeks aboard, so may need to be at home to get a few jobs done... will advise.....

We (i.e. me) shall be rowing round the island, so will look forward to clashing oars with you on the way round.

Swmo will probably be keeping the pub and sea wall company.

Will be single handed, have a challenge to self as last year tender only had softwood gunwhales and plastic rowlocks and it took me an hour.

But if someone knows of a suitable/available vessel for more than one then am happy to join the East Coast Forum Rowers /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif for a hearty team effort.
