Hi,

I own a 40ft wooden ex-naval tender. I am looking at heating systems for the winter. She does not have engines at present so I have been looking at installing a twin outlet propex gas heater 2.8kw rather than an Eber or Webasto.

However, I'm concerned that it may not be powerful enough to heat the space. The living accomodation is one space and the hull is has not yet been pannelled. I would estimate that the living space is 25ft long by 12ft wide.

Does anyone have any experience of using a propex on a wooden boat of this size?

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks!

Dunno about Propex in a wooden boat, but SWMBO insisted I put a Propex in her oversize motor caravan last winter. 2.8kw has proved to be overkill, and now she complains it is too hot! I did show her how to use the Thermostat, but.....

2.8kW for a space that size sounds a bit minimal to me for cold, winter conditions. It's no more than two gas rings on a boat cooker. Hardly tropical!
Add, A biggish diesel heater, fuelled, if possible (and legally), with domestic heating oil would be good IMHO, esp. if a lot of use is foreseen

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. Have bought the propex so fingers crossed. Got two portable calor gas heaters as well to top up the heat when we are there with a view to installing a wood burner for next winter.
