Properties of cedar wood - or any others, for that matter...

Today I had a discussion with someone who said that cedar wood is the best choice for the interior of lockers not only because it has a nice smell, but also because it's much less prone to developing mildew than any others.

Now, while the first property of cedar wood is rather well known, I never heard before about the latter.
What's the panel view on that, is only wishful thinking or there's some truth?
And cedar aside, are there some types of wood whose mildew-resistance properties are better than others?

Not all cedars are mildew resistant. Western Red Cedar is good, and is used for shingles, and greenhouses.

I've also heard the same. In my case the discussion was for or against using teak for the cabins floor. They were suggesting cedar on it's antibacteria properties, true it's soft, but will be barefoot in there always, so no problem.
Couldn't find a decent way of sanding it after epoxying and caulking without making a mess of the cabins, so skipped the project...
