I've got something of a dilemma in setting the pitch of a feathering prop - with the engine manufacturer and prop manufacturer offering conflicting advice.
I've fitted a 17 inch Maxprop to a Volvo MD22, replacing a 15 inch fixed Volvo prop. Although performance seems to be OK, (you seem to need more throttle for the same revs) the engine only reaches 3100 revs flat out, and Volvo recomend 3500-4000. You can reset the pitch on the prop easily, but the question is, should I? The Volvo agent reckons I should (the current setting equates to just over a 17 x 14 wheras Volvo reckon on a 17 x 12) but Maxprop say not to worry as the engine just burns more fuel at max revs, and my top speed coincides with max tourqe so leave it as it is.
What do the experts recommend?
