Hi guys,

I bought a 2 blade folding prop from a junk shop recently. The baldes move freely enough. There are a fair amount of shell fouling on it. The hole is splined and fits perfectly onto my volvo sail drive leg. Should I go ahead and buy a new fixed 2 bladed prop that is inside budget or should I try and find a man to refurn this one. Any suggestions who would do a good job. I'm in the bristol area.

If it is the correct diameter and pitch then assuming that it is not worn out internally (gears and pivot pins) it should be worth trying. There is however usually a good reason why things like that end up in junk shops, so examine it carefully.
Builders merchants sell brick cleaner, which is a mild acid and should enable you to clean the crud off it.

If the blades are loose it probably means the pivot pins/bushes are worn. They can be replaced and rebushed.

Clean with a scraper, wire wool and emery.
