PROPELLER HAND FOR YANMAR2GM20F

URGENT! Can anyone tell me if a yanmar 2gm20f uses a left hand or right hand propeller?

Not certain but I think it depends on which gearbox is fitted.

"YANMAR 2GM20F Specification: Direction of rotation: Propellor shaft (Ahead):Clockwise viewed from stern." from the Operation manual.

That is what I believe would be called a right-hand prop.

The gearbox is a KMP2P with a reduction of 2.21 to 1 and straight shaft drive

I have a 2gm20 , not sure if it is a 2gm20f , its a 1986 engine. Anyway it has a right hand prop.Edit - on a shaft, not saildrive

My 3GM30 prop walks to port when in reverse and slightly to Starboard in forward so I assume that it was right hand prop.

The 2GM20 plus SD20 saildrive uses a left handed prop.

Thanks for the info, it would explain why I have been dissapointed with the performance of my new engine. It has a lefthand prop fitted!

If wrong handed the boat would go astern when fwd gear is engaged,is that whats happening? If its just a performance issue it will be incorrect propellor size or pitch.

Maybe it's the wrong prop and the remote has been connected so that moving it to the 'fwd' position actually puts the gearbox in reverse. The ratios for fwd and reverse are different so you wouldn't get full speed in what is effectively reverse. I think there is a sticky label on the gearbox next to the selection lever to say which is fwd and reverse.

If with standard gearbox and from memory, clockwise forward and anti-clockwise reverse.

Of course, if fitted with a self-setting propeller is irrelevant.

stick it in gear (Ahead),crank in running direction and observe direction.
