Thanks Norman. Still need thread type and size for a reference. Don`t think I have a thread gauge to suit. It is for a bespoke fitting on something else.

Yes it's left hand thread, think its M20 but not sure. Try here they might be able to tell you.

I just found my thread guages. You are correct that it is 14TPI Whitworth form left hand thread. The nominal overall diameter is 0.825". It is actually 1/2" left hand BSP thread. (according to my engineers referece book which gives the above thread dimensions, Calor say 5/8" BSP) BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads are a bit of an odd man out as regards sizes, because they are named according to the pipe diameter that the fittings are for.
