Above 3 knots at anchor or sailing the propshaft turns and the noise is quite intrusive.
Can I stop it?
How ( simple and cheap!!) ?
Should I stop it ( I thought I recall some problems)?
Could it generate some much need power?
Your help appreciated as ever.

The PRM hydraulic box we have doesn't lock the shaft when the engine isn't running so the origin question is valid. If it is a hydraulic box I think the only solution would be a shaft brake.

For a quick and dirty solution if the shaft is easily accesible attach a pair of mole grips to stop it rotating. best to attach the starter key as well so you never forget to remove them before starting the engine! I would not be happy with this as a permanent solution, but it would at least give you a nights sleep.

Thanks for that, on my original post I mentioned that it was a hydraulic box but the post didnt work.
I will adopt the mole wrench idea for a start and removing the key is a good tip!!
I suppose that one drawback is if you suddenly need the engine as in a MOB there is one more thing to do.
Thanks all.
