I want a cheap way to stop the prop and shaft becoming fouled. Ive used antifoul previously and a mate suggests black grate polish......wots your tip??

Special antifouling is available and some report success. Alternative is Lanolin warmed up and slathered all over. Again many report success

I have just re-done mine using Tranona's second suggestion. The boat had been in the water for two years, Scottish sea-loch and the prop was clean. The anodes had a mussel farm on each of them, by way of comparison.
Unfortunately I found out over a pint with my supplier of Anhydrous Lanolin, a pharmacist, that he can't get the stuff anymore.
It was used by chemists to make up their own cosmetic compounds which isn't worth the bother any more.
I suppose I'll have to take to boiling up a few sheep.

I can guarantee that if you keep the boat out of the water, you won't have a problem!!!

Lots of people use lannollin, and other more exotic stuff. Nothing seems to have any lasting effect.

I took out a mortgage and bought a can of "Orca" which is basically lanolin. You smear it on and then heat it with something like a hair-drier and smooth it over to a thin coat. It still fouls up during the season but it's a much easier job to clean off.
