Prop for Bayliner 2452

Anyone out there have a 2452 that they can recommend a prop size or even tell me factory size? I need to fit a new prop and the boat came without one fitted. I've found online calculators somewhat incorrect in the past - you can't beat someone else's knowledge from experience.

Would be my suggestion, having had boats that size with that motor and drive combo......never a Bayliner 2452 though to be fair. If its not perfect it would be very close and workable

Thanks for response. What diameter though? They seem to vary greatly for this combo from 13" up to 18".
I found the Bayliner spec for this boat of 16 x 16 but then they quote that as a standard size for pretty much any combo on their range from a little speedboat with a 4.3 to a cruiser with twin 6.2.
Perhaps they bought a job lot from Mercruiser ?

Any suggestions given are almost useless to be honest...unless you know what she is doing currently. What you need is;

current prop pitch
Current max speed in gps when well trimmed
Current rpm whilst doing the above
Rpm range for engine (likely 4400-4800 on that 5.0 if it’s a carb or efi. If it’s an mpi then 4600-5000)
Gear ratio on the alpha drive.
Once you have that, you can get pretty close to perfect afterwards.
The 16x16 black max is often fitted to such set ups, but in my opinion is usually far from perfect. Good at getting on plane, but quite lazy and not efficient otherwise.
you really need to know the above though. That set up will sometimes come with a couple of drive gear ratio options.

Much thanks for the reply. Yes, thats exactly the predicament I have, I don't have a current pitch as I have no prop on the boat. I do understand that there are lots of variables but I was hoping to get a more refined starting point as the 16 x 16 seems a bit of a "stab in the dark" approach. Maybe I should just try that and gauge from there. Perhaps a little taller? Say, 16 x 18 or 19?

Have you tried the Bayliner Owners Forum?
Quick search on there shows a Bayliner 2452 running a 5.0 Merc, has an owner running a 15.25” x 19P SS prop.
I have no personal experience of the 2452 but the forum is worth a search at least!

Taking a guess at your likely drive ratio of about 1.62 or 1.81 (or similar) I’d start with either a 17” or 19” pitch standard black max. 16” diameter is a big old diameter and not required really. Generally a normal diameter for these sort of sizes would be around 14”. So like a 14x19” etc etc.
Id also say that most reputable dealers would allow you to try before you buy...as long as you don’t damage it.

I have had the Bayliner 242 , same hull and engine as the 2452. After trying many prop side nothing performed better than a SS Enertia 15 inch prop. With all tanks full I was on plane in 4-5 secs .

I've got a 14.5 x 19P Alloy prop somewhere in my garage. Came off an Alpha1 Gen2 outdrive. You're welcome to try it if you want (you'll need the washer, tab washer and nut). If it's no good, you can give it back!
