Anyone know what causes my douprop A6’s to wear at the base of the blades? Front(?) 4 bladed prop

Have just replaced them and already the paint is off but only in the form of a small line on one side only about 5mm wide and the length of the base where the blade meets the hub.

The ones I removed were heavily pitted here and I assumed it was due to cavitation from the blades being damaged but now I am not so sure.....

They just do.

SS props is one option, but then you need extra anodes to prevent the outdrive from dissolving.

Not unknown on fast vessels and in Hong Kong when they had this with the hydrafoils they stopped it by drilling a hole through the blades in the centre of the area affected IE the area of pitting.

This must have balanced the pressures!!!

Googling may find more about this.

yes could be ... I saw a RIB with duoprops and they were clean apart from the outer edges of the blades so I think it maybe weight and the initial getting on the plane that causes cavitation...

There was another bigger boat with the same issue as me.

Anyone out there with the same wear pattern?
