The swivel is getting stiff, but seems to be a "sealed for life" unit. It's not really designed to be taken apart, though I'm sure I could if I had to, but that may mean the end of it! Anybody have any experience of these? Do I just dig out the severly abused piece of plastic and buy another?

Re: Repair kit...

I have done my P31 with out much trouble. Once you get the lip seals out. top & bottom, you have to remove circlips and it will come apart. there is only one slimline bearing which along with the lip seals are available from Bearing Services. I think it cost me about £30.00. there are two ball berings in the side of the housing. these seal in the grease. I used an allen key to remove them then once it was all back together and grease was pushing out of these holes you just pop the bearing back in and lock it with a centre punch dot along side the ball. I had a problem with the bottom one because it had become oval. I suspect this was due to holding it too tightly in the vice. My local engineer sorted this out for me and it is lovely and smooth now.

I sent mine to the Profurl rep, who replaced with a "factory reconditioned unit" that was actually a new one, at about the same price as bearings and seals.

If you do it yourself, suggest you replace the springs in the seals with equivalent sized o-rings, as the damage appears to start in the springs.
