Following on from Foxy's interesting 'Is a Log Book necessary ' thread, with lots of interesting hypothetical situations in courts of law etc.

How many of us have ever been asked by 'officialdom' to actually produce their log?

In 45 years cruising, it is something I have never been asked for. But then I have never come anywhere near winding up in court either.

I think you need to qualify your question as "How many of us have ever been asked by UK 'officialdom' to actually produce their log?" Or you will be inundated by previously posted French/Dutch/Belgium/Swiss incidents of demands to see log books.

I was asked for my log book in Dover Harbour one year.
I was covered in @@@@ at the time tending to a blocked head pipe, I asked them come back in half an hour and they agreed.

They looked at the log book and I asked what they were looking for.

We see that you went to France the last two weekends.

Yes we did

You have a dog on board

yes, but my lab was with my mum when we went to france, I picked up my lab yesterday , after we returned from france.

I dont really believe you, did your dog land in France.

No, she was in Cambridge.

Well it is alright to take your dog to france as long as she doesnt land on the hard, she can go as long as she stays on the pontoons.

well thanks but I would not risk it in case we broke down or there was bad weather, I will continue to take her to my mums when we go to abroad.

That was it, off they went two customs men and a young lady.
