Proctor roller boom reefing

Hi, I would be interested in the parts as I still have my RR system in place and it's Gooseneck is in need of a replacement. As suggested I might be able to get a piece/s made using these! Let me know what you want for them? Cheers.

Here is a close up of the damaged parts. The thread on the ram's horn is worn and the clevis casting is broken. If anyone wants these and the rest of the bits in the picture on the original post then you can have it on condition that post and packing is paid and a decent donation is made to the RNLI.

That sounds fair to me could you give me an idea of postage costs? Fell free to give me a call on 07906 553985 although I will be away until Sunday and signal may not be great. (also I note that the Ramshorn may be wanted by someone else?)

Hi Rock, I have a similar problem now with my PROCTOR boom and did not find spares to repair it. What did you do finnaly with your boom ?
Yes, there is a problem with spares for the Proctor booms as I am told that the obsolete bits cannot be sourced, On my boat I never operated it as a rotating boom as I found that it was a bit of a faff when reefing with the handle to wind the sail around the boom and a clamping contraption to replace the vang/cunningham. Whilst out sailing I noticed that there was a crack in the gooseneck where the ramshorn goes through. In the end I scrapped the mechanism, removed and replaced it. I fitted and rivetted the new gooseneck and rigged new reefing lines run forward to the mast. This left a hole in the front of the mast where the handle passed through. I made up a blanking plate with stainless steel from an old cooker hood. Seems to work OK

Thank you very much for your clarification & suggestion, is looking really more practical, I will search new models & go for it. Regards, Constantin
What kind of key did you use it to open the inbus type screw, for dismmantle all parts ?

I like the blanking plate - another winter project! I also replaced mine with a gooseneck and second hand boom with reefing lines as you have done.

If you look at the picture on the original post (Sep 2018) there are two "roll pins" that are used to hold the handle shaft and bottom ring in place. You will see that the top one was distorted. Roll pins can be removed using a suitably sized pin punch and the previous application of WD40 and then gently knocked through. From memory it was fairly easy to remove.
