Problems with boaty app

Are you plotting the GPS position onto Google Earth or directly onto a paper chart? I believe that the Google Earth has a different datum and most (all) GPS positions are somewhat/slightly out of true when plotted on GE.

I would think it is just your gps in the phone. They are notorious for being inaccurate, probably if you go outside it will work better or if you turn the gps off and on it will improve. Nearby obstacles will affect performance.

What datum is the app using? Charts, well most things really, use WGS84 if the app is not using that there will be a difference.

Most GPS & apps should allow you to set this as part of the set up - if it isn't already set as standard.

not according to google - states quite clearly that google earth uses wgs-84 on that page.

Its not a datum issue, just poor gps signal.

I've yet to experience a 'poor signal' and I use my wee Garmin GPS in all sorts of places; flying with them is great fun.
