I posted a little while ago asking for help to repair a Colnebrook roller reefing.

I soon found that no-one within the industry (riggers, chandlers etc.) could help with repair and everyone tried to replace an otherwise servicable system for lots of 100s of pounds.

Problem - there's a 3/8 SS rod running up through the drum with a 3/8UNF left handed thread. My rod was in two pieces - caused a moment of far too rapid activity when it broke & the tack end of the system parted from the stem head fitting.

Solution - I found a great little engineering company close to Lee-on-solent. They made me a new part in a day for 35 pounds. If anyone want's the name a PM will get it.

Moral - Again use a company outside the boating industry if possible. It'll cost far less.

Thanks also to a very friendly & helpful Bob, a cat sailor. He stopped for water at the Emsworth pontoon yesterday while I was re-rigging and offered the time to help. This was great since I ended up being winched up the mast rather than having to climb up. It's great to see this kind of thing happening.
