Probably doesn\'t belong here...

... and it's been mentioned no doubt, countless times before.

But does anyone else find those advertising pop-ups on the YM Home Page intensely annoying?

I realise that YM has to make her money, but surely these things just serve to put people off visiting?

I tried to click on some of the news items, but gave up waiting for the car adverts to disappear, I'll go elsewhere I guess for the info...

I'm in a bad mood because the advert was for a car with variable intensity brakelights, something I thought of when I was a kid, theres a possible patent and life in the sun lost right there!

Hmm, not sure that could ever be proven.

Tell you what, I'll write to BMW to explain the situation; that actually a couple of forumites on the YBW website thought of the idea 1st, and that can we please have the patent.

And when they say yes, we'll split the royalties.

Re: Probably doesn\'t belong here...

You know the Mercedes radar thingy for automatically slowing and braking in cruise control? And the idea for overtake warning/resistance (ie you go to overtake, sensors realise there's a car moving a little faster coming up on your drivers side, so the wheel vibrates and "resists" subtly). I thought of them 4 years ago. I guess the ideas were obvious and it were their time whoever thought of them...but buggerit and dammit, yep that's a few million I didn't get!

Hijacked thread didn't I?

Re: Probably doesn\'t belong here...

I have a feeling that these big Auto companies have been developing this type of technology for years, and then sitting on it, releasing it when the time was right to make the most impact and the most money!

Have a feeling that the variable brake light technology was around in the 80s, probably before I was born.

Though it is annoying that you can't quickly patent things as you think of them.

Don't moan, mate and me tried to sell a high level dual intensity brake light back in the early 1970's. Told we could not make or sell it as it did not comply with the Construction and Use Regulations.
Should still have gone ahead and took out a patent !!!!.

I remember variable intensity brake lights being tried here in the 70's. The harder you pushed the faster they flashed. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
