Hi we have a pro plus 8 battery charger has worked fine all year. However couple of days ago it got very hot red lights came on (these indicate it is charging) then switched off so now don't work at all. this is the second one, same happend to the last one.

There is NO argument with Sterling they are replacing it again (very good service). My query is WHY, Stirling cant help with any reason. I do not run engine with the charger on mains. I have a 110 amp starter battery & two 110 amp domestic batteries, stirling say that is not a prob for the charger. There must be a reason but I can't think of one.
Many thanks

Are you living aboard? Is the charger maintaining the batteries as well as handling (spikey switched) domestic loads?
If so, where is it connected - direct to battery or somewhere in the distribution system?

charger

Yes we live onboard have done for over two years on this boat. the first charger was already fitted that one same prob & was replaced then that one same prob each after about a year they have all worked as they are designed to ie on & off as demand requires, we have no everload on the boat, we use the batteries for waterpump/lights/eber. Many discusions with Sterling the makers they see no problems with our set up.
The charger is wired direct to the batteries as per instructions, ie + &- labeld wires to start battery, the othe wires + & - labeld to the domestic batteries.

Had similar problems lasted a month from new then one day nothing. It was a pro charge C 20 amp on two 110 amp batteries, one starter, 1 domestic. Have a C- TEC M300 no problems and comes with the wires connected so no making up the wires and terminals, just plug anhd play!
