HAVING CHANGED MY ENGINE OIL I AM NOW ABOUT TO CHANGE MY GEARBOX OIL THE PROBLEM IS SHOULD IT BE HYDRAULIC OIL OR NORMAL ENGINE OIL ?

THE MODEL IS PRM 140

WHY DO WE EVEN BOTHER CHANGING IT AT ALL I DONT KNOW ANY ONE WHO CHANGES THEIR CAR GEARBOX OIL WHICH IS DOING MORE HOURS THAN MOST BOATS

SOME INFO WOULD BE GREAT

SEE YA

The Marine Diesel Direct Site(www.marinedieseldirect.com/articles/engine-service-intervals.html) suggests that it is not necessary to change the oil unless you have clutch slippage, a leak, or water in the gearbox oil. Yanmar suggest you change the gearbox oil every 150 hours, at the same time that you change the engine oil. The service manual specifies SAE 20/30 lubricating oil. Seems excessive to me but I may well do it anyway

I fitted a rebuilt PRM101 in my yacht and the info directly from PRM (who were most helpful) was to use engine oil even if this conflicts with what was stated in the original users handbook.
