I have recently completed a delivery trip of a Privateer 52. We were on route from Cornwall to Palma, with one stop in Gib for fuel.

I believe she is the first Privateer to go to the Med. She attracted a lot of interest from various people in Gib. She is a very comfortable Trawler style vessel, and she looks very different to your typical Med cruiser...

Although I missed having sails to play with, I could perhaps get used to the air con, dvd player, bread making machine, proper flushing toilets and a shower better than the one in my own house!

Sounds a nice trip. Any pictures? Is it the one Ancasta had listed, newish with deutz 140hp? If yes she sold quite quickly

Does she have stabs? Will she live in spain or france or italy? Btw there are lots of similar boats in Med (fleming, selene, the odd outer reef, GbN etcY but I haven't seen a privateer

Btw, and it's anotherr thread, there is no reason why nice loos and showers and gensets only work on mobos. I've always failed to understand why sailboats don't have them and customers don't demand them

We very, very seriously considered purchasing a Privateer about two years ago. They are brilliant boats.

The guy who's boat we did our trial run on was taking her to the Caribbean.

However, the bottom line of the spec we wanted was just a bit too rich for us so we stuck with what we have.

Don't know how himself will choose between a Nordhaven or a Privateer when the Lottery/Premium Bond win finally materializes

Different folks, different strokes I suppose but having looked at both boats at shows, the Nordhavn seems to me to be better finished than the Privateer. Nothing wrong with the Privateer but it just seemed even more utilitarian than the Nordhavn. Also I wasn't impressed with them at this year's Dusseldord show. No boat on show and they couldn't show us any photos of any model other than the 52. We got the impression that the 52 was the only model they'd ever built and not too many of those either. Anyone got any idea how many boats they've actually built?

Maybe freddrift but yesterday saw a large trawler yacht as we passed in the hamble

Much bigger and swisher looking than the Trawler 42 from beneteau which i think from the badging is the builder.

What could that be?

jfm - I agree with you wrt genny and loos on yachts. Oysters will fit decent gennies and water makers etc but some of the heads I have seen on their boat show boats are terrible...

I was lucky enough to be invited, by Halcyon Yachts, to crew on Privateer for this delivery passage.
Sailing on a MOBO is a first for me and I can certainly see the attraction.

Sunbathing on the fly bridge and sailing in your slippers certainly has its advantages.

Happily I was bought back down to earth with a delivery of a 31 UFO to Ireland. Ho well! Back to the wet gear and elements.:D
