We have moved to a riverside location complete with mooring, but don't yet know if we want to splash out (forgive the pun) on buying a boat. we have come across quite a few boats which have been for sale for some time. If we were to suggested n arrangement to a seller whereby we 'rented' the boat
( with suitable paperwork in place) how would we decide on a suitable amount? is this something that anyone here has experince of? or is it just too fraught with potential problems? advice welcome please !:)

I'm not aware of leasing for personal use, although there are boat share schemes where you buy a number of weeks, or a proportion of the boat.

I suggest you call Essex Boatyard. You will find them with a Google or a look at Motor Boat Monthly. They are as progressive a dealer as I know, and I'm sure will have some advice for you.

Generally boats are bought outright, or marine mortgage or marine loan, depending on the price, and the ammount of deposit you can afford.

Welcome ...

Hi

Why not twist the arrangement around a bit? You want to 'try' boating but lots of boaters 'need' berths for their boats .. especially those that are For Sale with berthing fees but the boats are going nowhere.
An advert or direct approach / cards - in -marinas might be worth a try.

I'm sure they will insist on 'qualifications'/ experience but you need those anyway to varying degrees so just may be a way to meet more everyone's needs.
