Princess job cuts

Just seen it as well.

This is unfortunate for the workers concerned. Princess seem to have 'upped their game' in recent years and I would guess a lot of that is down to a dedicated workforce.

Surely we have to start seeing consolodation soon...

It also means that the buyers of recent models should have bomb prrof resale values especially the V45 as production of smaller units must be being cut.

At least they are hanging in there...

Not sure I understand the logic of that. Yes there will be less V45's built in the foreseeable future but, unless the secondhand market recovers, there are going to be less buyers around to buy them in the future

Yes I expect to see consolidation in the boat building market too but I would bet that Princess is one of the survivors.

Mike,

What I was refering to was the 'desirability' of the V45. Although there will be less demand there is not an oversupply so I expect strong SH value as hopefully Supply will mirror demand as people can not stretch to a new one (lack of credit etc)

It was announced last month but today the actual workers being made redundant received their letters, hence the BBC story. It's a shame because Princess is a large employer in Plymouth.

So basically not as bad as they were expecting earlier in the year, they're actually letting go 2/3 of the predicted number.

Still bad news for all involved, but the fact that they've been able to maintain more of the workforce than originally proposed must be a good sign I guess?

These companies have got to remain focused and trim. 300 staff if under utilised are a cost. Sad times, but better that the company remain economically sound for the better times that will return (someday!?)....but probably doubtful these guys will ever get a job back at Princess...

I think the way it works with unions and redundancies is that a company plans to make 300 people redundant but announces it wants to make 450 redundant. After tea and biccies with the union reps in the boardroom, the company announces it is going to make 300 people redundant and the union claims it has saved 150 jobs

I would think it's every bit as bad as Princess were expecting
