Blimey, what a shame. I can't read the Italian - was anyone hurt? Is this a fall asleep on autopilot job? You're not allowed to land on Isola Piana (it's east of Corsica, South of Elba, and looks like a grand piano) so as well as the repair bill for the Princess there'll be a fine to pay...

More details here, but also in IT I'm afraid. In a nuthshell:
Russian owner, accident at night while on transfer by crew from Porto Cervo to Cannes, cruising on a/p, but obviously on a wrong route...
4 onboard, nobody hurt - 2 man and 2 women, if anyone think this is of some relevance /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.
Oh, and boat apparently brand new (may 2009).

Thanks Mapis. P Cervo to Cannes and they hit Piana? Not the most direct route. I guess they must have been going up E Corsica to shelter from W winds?

Precisely my thought while I wrote previous post, so a sick idea popped up in my mind and I just had to check on my PC charts. I recommend to sit before reading, though.
If you draw a straight line from the light just outside P.Cervo to Cannes, how far do you think it is from Isola Piana?
Exactly, right on top.
There's a fault in such theory, though. They should have hit Caprera first.
But maybe they managed to get round Caprera 'cause it's more visible (and illuminated), before resetting the original a/p route...?

Anyway. Whatever the reason, considering the type of boat and its position on the rocks, there's one thing I'm sure of: I'd rather not cruise with the same helmsman!

I think that Princess was in Plymouth Yacht haven until a couple of months ago... They had a few sitting out near the entrance waiting to be delivered..

In my post above, ignore my geography, I was mixing up Pianosa (just south of Elba) with Piana, doh! I now don't trust myself to hit Menorca this weekend

Nah, no need to worry.
Just get round Cap D'Antibes, and you'll have nothing but water between yourself and Menorca, as I recall. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Understood re. the different islands, though funnily your comments were equally valid also for Isola Piana!

PS: even the 'fine to pay' bit applies, in fact. The article linked by PY says that they landed in an area where navigation is forbidden...!
